Siena, San Gimignano and the Chianti have maintained a medieval atmosphere that calls to mind the splendors of the past. Nowadays these cities are must-see locations for the discerning visitor who wishes to experience their unspoilt beauty. We will visit Siena where you will be enchanted by the splendid Cathedral built in a Romanesque/Gothic style (admission included) and by the Palazzo Comunale (town hall). This palace is situated in the picturesque Piazza del Campo, in which the famous Palio takes place every year. Free time for lunch. We’ll continue then to Monteriggioni, well known worldwide for its wine and its countryside of unrivalled charm, where woods alternate with vineyards and olive groves, in a landscape dotted with Romanesque churches, farmhouses, villas and castles. Next, we will reach San Gimignano. Declared by Unesco to be a world heritage site, San Gimignano is also known as the “city of the beautiful towers”: here you can still admire 14 medieval towers, once a symbol of the power and wealth of their inhabitants. In the afternoon we will continue through the area of the Chianti. You will have the opportunity to enjoy beautiful vistas of the surrounding landscape from numerous streets and piazzas, which have remained virtually the same over the centuries. We will conclude our tour with a visit to a renowned vineyard, reviewed in the best wine journals, with a snack consisting of salami, cheese, and different kinds of bruschetta as well as a selection of fine wines. |
